CALL DUCKS - these
comical characters, like the Runners, thrive on your
slugs and snails.
Their laying time is short, starting approximately February and running to
May/June. They will sit their own eggs and make good mothers.
60+ EGG LAYING GEESE - in season only
Available as day olds (female only)
KHAKI CAMPBELLS
- the ever popular egg layer
Available as day old sexed females.
MANDARINS
- these exotic looking birds originate from China. They make
excellent mothers but you do
need to keep them in a well penned area as the young are extremely good escape
artists and can run up walls and disappear through the smallest gap.
Being a tree duck they do fly extremely well, unless pinioned, and will
roost at the highest point available. They prefer mature deciduous woodland or
parkland with quiet pools and streams and woodland with dense secondary growth,
especially rhododendron.
CAROLINA
WOOD DUCK - these ducks, from North
America, are woodland dwellers and tend to keep to sha
ded
areas rather than open spaces. They prefer shallow water of deciduous and
mixed woodlands, particularly those that offer the least disturbance. They will
choose a natural tree hole in which to raise their young. Like the
Mandarins they will often be found up in the trees.
HAWAIIAN GOOSE (Nene)
is the largest endemic land bird in Hawaii, where it has been adopted as
the state
bird.
They feed on grasses, herbs, seeds and berries. They are very territorial
and the male fastidiously guards the nesting area during the breeding season.
The name Nene is derived from their low wailing call, but is normally not very
vocal except in the breeding season which extends from October to February.
